Make sure to drop by the Westside Atlanta Charter School table at the Riverfest 2012 Music & Art Festival on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 12 noon until 10pm! The location is 2520 Paul Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 on the meadow at the Argos Atlanta plant in the Riverside neighborhood. The festival is well attended and will include live music, art, food, and beverages, with activities for children of all ages.

What is a Charter School?
- Public funding (free to students), local control
- Charter – essentially a contract entered into with the local school board (Atlanta Public Schools)
- Initial charter – limited duration, renewable if measurable goals are met
- Not religious in nature
- Eligible students – anyone within school district
Why should we consider starting a Charter School?
- Positive impact on local community – provide an additional quality educational choice for Westside families
- Greater local control and selection of curriculum, administration, teachers, etc. than traditional public school
- Positively impact gentrification
WACS Proposal:
- Kindergarten through 8th Grade
- Open doors in August 2013
- Language and literacy focus, through a partnership with the Atlanta Speech School
- Value our teachers – pay them well and treat them as professionals
- Strategically positioned to bring together a mix of diverse races and socio-economic groups
- Strategically positioned to work in conjunction with Atlanta’s investment of resources
